Rowe Vocabulary Building for Colleges provides an authoritative guide for vocabulary developement. As a complete short course in vocabulary building, as a supplement to a complete English or communications course, or as a vocabulary module in other business courses--the short lessons with correlated practice are adaptable to a variety of courses within the college curriculum. Lessons can be selected as desired for individualized learning in the classroom or as homework assignments.
Each of the 20 units provides two pages of instruction with examples followed by two pages of correlated worksheet exercises. The worksheets stress practical usage. Also included are four two-page review worksheets, a pronunciation guide, and a complete index. Designed to teach business students both to spell words accurately and to use them effectively, Rowe Vocabulary Building for Colleges begins with word building. the first five units provide guidelines for forming derivatives of one-syllable or two-syllable words. Students build vocabulary by correctly adding endings to root words. Beginning with Unit 6, the text provides definitions and pronunciations for groups of related words. Each unit focuses on one vocabulary problem at a time, including words pronounced alike or nearly alike, words with silent letters, words with double letters, and word endings.
